THE HOCKEY PLAYER

Editing this feature film for Upper Canada Films was an absolute blast.

Filmed over three years with unprecedented access, The Hockey Player follows Luke Prokop—the first openly gay professional men’s hockey player—as he navigates the pressures of the sport, public identity, and personal resilience in his pursuit of playing in the NHL.

I love the words of Frameline Film Festival on this one, so I’m going to borrow them:

“ In that way, like its fictional HBOMax counterpart, The Hockey Player is ultimately a love story — between a player and his family, and a player and his sport.”

Director: Jacqueline Doorey
Producer: Taylor Prestidge
Writer: Nelson Phillips
Editor: Alix Buck
Director of Photography: Jerome Riel

Premiering at Frameline Film Festival followed by broadcast on OutTV.
